Question 3: The following observations have been arranged in ascending order. If the median of the data is 63, find the value of x.

29, 32, 48, 50, x, x + 2, 72, 78, 84, 95

Question 4: Find the mode of 14, 25, 14, 28, 18, 17, 18, 14, 23, 22, 14, 18.

Measures of Central Tendency

Very often we need to analyse a given data to find a value that can represent the entire data set. In other words we say the central tendency of the data set. Different types of data would require different methods to find this central value which can be used as the representation of the entire data set. For example, average number of students can be find using the mean of the data, splitting apples in large sized and small sized groups would require median and for a shoe company mode will be the best measure to decide about the investment.
