Finding surface area of a cube or a cuboid is quite simple. Every cube/cuboid has 6 sides. All we need is find the area of all six sides and add – this will be the total surface area of the cube/cuboid.

A cube is a cuboid that has all edges of equal length. Hence, every cube is a cuboid as well but every cuboid is not a cube.

A closed cylinder has 3 surfaces:

Curved or lateral surface
Top
Base

The formula to calculate the curved surface area and total surface area are quite simple to learn and derive.

Lateral or curved surface area of cylinder = 2πrh

r = radius, h = height (or length)

Total surface area of cylinder = 2πr ( r + h )

r = radius, h = height (or length)

Cone is an interesting geometric figure to understand and work upon. You come across so many items in daily life that are conical in shape – like a picnic tent, an ice cream cone, a birthday cap and there are many more that you can think about.

In this chapter we will work on only right circular cones. To understand what a right circular cone is, watch the following video.
